Task 2 - Logo

LECTURES

All lectures are in task 1

INSTRUCTIONS

For task 2, first we are asked to come out with three ideas of what brand we wanted to make, and from those three ideas, we discuss with the lecturer and finalize the idea. Here is my three carrier option choices :

IDEA 1
1. Doing a store for older people (grandma)
2. Selling fashion items, selling some antique stuff, make a diy class for them (do a vase, decorating class, etc), make them happy when entering the store
3. Nowadays, there are lots of shop for teenagers, but I haven’t seen a store for grandma
4. Old people, or their children
5. all about grandma
Because I wanted to do something for grandma, I thought of this name where inside the store, it is all about grandma.

IDEA 2
1. Doing a makeup brand for acne skin girls so it is safe for their acne
2. Selling affordable makeup, opens a store so people can come and try on the product, maybe add some makeup tutorial classes
3. Usually, brands that sells makeup didn’t really categorize what skin type are the products for, so I want to do this brand mostly for acne skin girls
4. Acne skin girls, teenagers
5. spotless
So spotless itself means clean, with an acne face (“not clean”), using this spotless makeup can become “clean”

IDEA 3
1. Doing a pajama brand
2. Selling cute pajamas, affordable ones, and comfortable ones.
3. For this pajamas, people can also wear it as fashion, so people can use it to go outside, so it's like a 2 in 1 shirt.
4. Teenagers
5. pajama 2 go
Because we can also wear this outside the house, so i am thinking of this name

After discussing, I choose the third idea which is pajama 2 go for my brand. First, we have to draw out 2 mind maps (for business, and for name brand) and here is my finished mind maps :

fig 1.2 Brand Mindmap

Next, we are to sketch the logo of our brand :
First Sketch

fig 2.1 First Sketch

fig 2.2 First Sketch

From the sketch, we decided to move on with the cloud mascot logo to move forward because the word mark logo didn't really work well. So, I move on with the cloud mascot logo and make it with more version of it. Moreover, I also tried to sketch more with the P with pajama hat logo.

Second Sketch

fig 2.4 Second Sketch

From the second sketch, with group tutorials, everyone agree that the cloud logo is more exciting than the P logo, so I moved on with the cloud logo for digitalization.

Digitalization Process

fig 3.2 Digitalization

This digitalization is for the expression for the cloud, and I also try the typography. For the final logo expression, I go with the 'O' expression of the cloud, and for the typography, I go with the cursive logo. Then I move on to color.

fig 3.4 Trying Color

Some of the color worked, but some don't. Because my target audience is female, then after discussing with the lecturer, we decided to go with the more pastel color than the vibrant color. After finalizing the logo, I do the document for the final submission of this task.

DRAFT PDF File

This is the first draft of the pdf file. The lecturer suggested me to thicken the stroke of the cloud, then for the tagline font and placement need to be changed. After the feedback, I finalize my document.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 3
The mascot idea is nice, some cursive lettering makes it think it's for girls, the P with hat and eyes are also potential, need to explore more with the mascot, and don't make the ribbon so small.

WEEK 4
The cloud logo is working, explore the typography (can be sans serif so it is more contrast), the expression chosen is the yawning one with the sleeping cap in it, will the cloud fill in with color or not, need to think it.

WEEK 5
Find a script font that does not really have much decoration for the text, the text needs to be curved so it looks more blended in with the brandmark. For the colour, I don’t have to use all colours from the palette, I can consider using it for the brand colour. The text is better with all lowercase then uppercase.

WEEK 6
The stroke of the mascot needs to be bigger or not if it's in the minimum size, it didn’t really show. Other than that it's fine.

REFLECTION

By completing this task, I have gained a deeper understanding of how to design logos more effectively. I've learned about the importance of proportions in creating a balanced and visually appealing logo, as well as how to select colors that harmonize with the design. Additionally, exploring different typefaces that complement the mascot or overall theme has been particularly exciting for me. One of the most challenging aspects is producing the initial sketch, as it requires translating abstract ideas into a tangible form. However, once past that stage, I find the entire process highly engaging and rewarding, as it allows me to combine creativity with technical skills.
