REFLECTION
Experience
After 14 weeks of learning advanced typography, now I know about typographic system, although some of the task for me is stressful because of the deadline, but I found out that this is enjoyable. The most enjoyable experience for me is when I am doing task 2 which is key artwork and collateral because I never thought of how my name would be a key artwork and with this task, I get to explore a lot. The most stressful task was task 3 because to find idea was hard (proposal part) and to make sure the letters are consistent are very stressful, I repeat this process a lot. Overall 14 weeks of learning advanced typography passed by so quickly as the deadline of each tasks are near.
I observed that I still need considerable time to generate ideas for each task. This is partly because, although I have already completed a basic typography course in semester 1, advanced typography presents new challenges that require deeper thinking and creativity. Having a foundational understanding certainly helps, but the complexity of advanced topics means I need to spend more time brainstorming and refining my ideas. Additionally, observing my friends' work has been incredibly inspiring. Their creativity and innovation push me to go beyond my initial ideas and strive for more sophisticated and unique typographic solutions.
Findings
Over the past 14 weeks, I have discovered that designing fonts involves much more than simply creating aesthetically pleasing characters. It requires careful consideration of the font's purpose and the context in which it will be used. Each design decision must serve a functional goal, enhancing readability, conveying a particular mood, or fitting within a specific design framework. Task 1, which involved creating layouts, significantly improved my understanding of how to make typography more engaging and effective. I learned to think critically about how different typographic elements interact within a layout, and how these elements can be arranged to guide the viewer's eye and enhance the overall visual communication. This comprehensive approach to typography has deepened my appreciation for the intricacies of type design and layout, making the process both challenging and rewarding.
